Description
Another of our battle hammers that are so popular. This type is also based on an order from our client, who allowed us to keep a similar model here on Etsy. After all, it is an interesting type and brings many innovations. The head is simple, forged from one piece. The impact face is not divided, it consists of one narrow surface, which, in combination with the robustness of the weapon, is dangerous due to its impact kinetic force and the small area of the size of the hammer face. The tail on the opposite side is narrow, long, relatively thin and pointed. It is mounted on an ash handle, which is girded with iron brackets, through which it is riveted with handmade rivets. The brackets are lightly decorated.
The normal size of industrial rivets would not be enough for such thickness, so we made our own. Rivet heads are hand formed. The hammer head is made from an old thick hinge of massive bars on an old estate. Both face and tail have forge-welded steel surfaces for durability and hardness. It is forged on charcoal. The handle in the grip of the weapon has a special shape, based on the eastern design of handles (Ottoman influence). The wooden shaft is well oiled. The head is leveled with beeswax.
This piece is a meeting of Western and Eastern influences that took shape in Hungary around the end of the 17th century, specifically in its eastern parts. You would find it in the hands of mounted Cossacks in the Ukraine, but also in the light Hungarian cavalry during the battles against the Ottomans.
The hammer is overall antique looking, even though it is a newly made piece. Suitable for collectors, enthusiasts for historical weapons, as a costume weapon and an accessory to the medieval costume. The head is constructed by forge welding from old, decarburized iron on the body and from hard steel on the striking face and tail. The item is constructed so it resembles the technological process of the 17. century smithing and metalworking. The head can and will include pitting and forging scars on some places. This was the original demand of the collector that ordered this item in the first place and lended us his design to replicate.
