Morenci Turquoise Stamped Round Bolo Tie

A classically made and styled sterling silver bolo tie with a small but genuine Morenci turquoise cabochon at a reasonable price. Now I ask you, what more could anyone wanting a bolo tie need? Geneva Ramone, noted Navajo silversmith, made this bolo tie and designed and stamped the wonderful design. I confess I particularly love the round bolo ties with the sterling silver infinity slide on the back that doesn’t tear up the 42 inch leather 4 ply bolo strand. The bolo tips are also sterling silver so this is a very attractive package for the price.This Morenci turquoise bolo tie measures 2 inches wide and 2 inches long.It weighs 13.6 grams.

The Morenci Mine is primarily a huge copper mine. It is in southeast Arizona near the towns of Morenci and Clifton, not too far from the New Mexico border. The turquoise from this mine is considered one of the five best American turquoises by many. It tends to be blue with only small quantities of green stone coming out. Much of the Morenci turquoise will contain iron pyrite or fool’s gold. It often displays a nice dark spiderweb pattern and rarely a waterweb which is highly prized. The blue color of most of the stone ranges from a very deep blue to a robin’s egg color and many shades in between. There was some very good naturally hard turquoise that was recovered from this mine. These days, the copper mining company that controls the mine does not allow the turquoise that remains to be recovered for liability concerns. Sadly, according to a former neighbor of mine who worked at the mine, when turquoise is found now it is usually thrown into the smelter with the rest of the ore to make copper wire.
