A Single (one) Excellent Steel Sword Basket for Rattan Combat
When you are looking for serious hand protection, nothing fits the bill like this steel clamp style Sword Basket. Using high strength machine bolts your rattan is held snugly in place within the steel front and rear sockets. There is a hole at the base for setting a lag screw into the butt of your rattan sword, but it’s nearly never needed because of the efficient grip of the clamp. It has good counterweight for balancing the weight of a weapon and keeping it nimbler. This sword basket is designed specifically for SCA heavy combat, made of a good quality thick gauge mild steel round stock and then powder coated for durability and low maintenance. Because of its sturdy construction it can withstand quite a lot of sustained abuse.
This is for ONE, meaning a left-handed or a right-handed sword basket.
Dimensions:
Exterior dimensions: 7″ wide (side to side), 7 3/4″ tall -clamp to butt cup, 5 7/8″ deep – front to back
Inside width (running side to side) is 6 1/2″ – 165mm
Inside height (running top to bottom) 5 1/2″ – 140mm
Inside depth (from front cage to a plane created by the bar openings) – 5 1/2″ – 140mm
Knuckle gap (depth from front cage to rattan) 2 1/4″ – 57mm
The inside diameter of the rings is about 1 3/8″ – 35mm. You will need to pare your rattan down to this size or smaller to insert it.
Like all standard sword baskets, your marshal will require you to wear at least back-of-the-hand protection while using this. Check with your local marshal.
