HISTORY:The Grinch is a fictional character created by Dr. Seuss. His first appearance was in the children’s book How The Grinch Stole Christmas! 1957. In 1966, he reappeared in a television special of the same name based on the book, produced by MGM Animation/Visual Arts Studio and directed by Chuck Jones. In 1977, Seuss responded to requests from his fans to create more stories about The Grinch, which is why he wrote Halloween Is Grinch Night, a Halloween special for CBS. Like its predecessor, this sequel was awarded an Emmy. In 1982, Marvel produced the short The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat, which was co-produced by Dr. Seuss, under his real name, Ted Geisel. This third appearance of the character led to another two Emmy Awards.The Grinch is considered a symbol of Christmas, as a parody of what the modern commercialism of the party produces. The character refers to the predominant consumerism and concern only for himself, completely removed from the world where people live, in the end his heart beats again, leaving his hatred aside, becoming the icon of Christmas. Outside the Christmas period the term “Grinch” is usually synonymous with grouchy (“grumpy”).
