While the tuxedo is limited in the types of pocket squares to pair with it, whenever you wear a suit, you have almost free reign in choice of square. It is entirely up to your taste. You will often find pocket squares and ties sold together, but this is intended to add to your collection. When you wear a tie and pocket square, they should be different. The usual rule of thumb is to match the main color of one to an accent color in the other.

My pocket squares are sewn rolled by hand while I watch videos, with no machine stitching. This results in only a little stitching being visible on the front and no backside stitching, as opposed to squares that are quickly turned out with lots of visible stitching. I specifically choose fabric patterns that invite a closer look, either with a sharp pop that is not overbearing or medium scale details that are visible at conversation range.
